Plum District scouts the best Black Friday deals for Moms and their Family
November 21st, 2012 | 9:50 AM
Black Friday is a ritual for some, a one-time-never-again thing for others and a never-will-I-ever for more. For Mommies with bundles of joy costing them bundles of money, this sacred holiday shopping day rival’s your first born’s birth or wedding day.
We love the best door-busting big box deals just as much as the next Mom, but this year we don’t have to set the alarms or sneak out after dark. Black Friday is now Grey Thursday. Walmart, Kmart, Target, eBay and more are opening up their doors, virtually or otherwise, bright and early on Thursday for even bigger savings. So put that turkey leg down and gobble on over to your favorite discount retailer for door-busting deals for the holiest of all shopping days for deal-scouts.
Turkey? What turkey. Put that hunk of greasy meat down and find Plum District’s favorites for your holiday squeeze.
Toys R US
Toys R Us is pretty much the Mecca for savvy Mom shoppers. All those times you heard the little one scream “I want!” to the television, well you’re going to find that souvenir here.
Toys R Us Black Friday deals were leaked early, coming out with gifts like the Barbie Escalade electric ride-on car for a whopping $100 savings, a Fisher-Price Grand Dollhouse for $40 off and the Mega Blocks Halo sets discounted to 40%. Of course, while the items above might be on the kid’s kid’s wishlist, and your own Black Friday holiday shopping bundle, that doesn’t mean you have to turn your head to educational items like Disney storybooks, or essentials like classic organic clothing.
You’re most likely a Plum District subscriber, meaning you love to shop online. Who wouldn’t? With today’s technology it’s like using a pager in the ‘90s – everyone is doing it.
So jump into holiday shopping with Amazon’s Black Friday deals that have been spreading like lighting all over the web for weeks. Amazon has been delivering serious percentages off items like the EASEL for Two at 40% off. Plus, a slew of Blu-ray titles are marked for just $3.99, in addition to the video games, music and movies – like The Avengers, Lady and the Tramp, Rio and Ice Age – that’ll be low, low, low. Be weary, though – certain titles have specific time slots for purchasing (just a head’s up, The Smurfs will be from 12:20-4:20pm on Thursday). Just make sure the kid’s don’t catch Santa in the act!
We’re never surprised when Black Friday deals are leaked; Walmart will always remain at the top of our lists. Amid reports of a strike, Walmart stays true with mega discounts on electronics, toys and essentials. We love the Little Tikes Gourmet Prep n’ Serve Kitchen for $50 and can’t help but unleash a little squeal with the Fisher-Price Learning Farm for $40. Oh yeah, and selected Barbie’s are $5 each. Never one to disappoint, Walmart also reveals a slew of stocking stuffer art supplies like the Crayola® Twistables Color Wheel for $8.88 or Crayola® Wonder Value Kits at just under $20. See more of the Walmart Black Friday deals at Black Friday headquarters.

Plum District moms speak out about getting ready for the big first day!
July 18th, 2012 | 10:47 PM
We’ve been all about “Back to School” at Plum District lately, and we’ve come up with some amazing offers for savvy school shoppers. But all this school talk has led to some really interesting discussions about what it means to start a new school year. It seems that across our office, everyone has experienced really different emotions towards going back to school. So we decided to consult the experts—our moms–and get the full report on how everyone feels about the big day.
You and your child are probably equally concerned about the social scene. Nervousness about making friends, being picked on, and fitting in transcends all ages. In fact, 46% of our moms were the most concerned with their student making friends or being bullied. But the largest single concern, coming in at 28%, was whether or not the kids would have a good teacher. Your kid, on the other hand, probably just wants her/him to be “nice.”
Each year of school is a huge step for you and your little ones; it involves a lot of planning and a lot of emotions. We’ve been working just as hard to drum up the best offers to make your life a little easier. But all of our brainstorming begins with what our mothers need. Read below to see the rest of our moms’ report on that big first day. Then let us know what you’re worried about or share some back to school stories! You know we love to hear them.
Style is about a lot more than just a wardrobe, but in this case, we'd love to raid their closets!

Mom bloggers are engaged in their communities, seeking useful, fun, and trendy information to share with the world. These particular mom bloggers have style (and brains!) that we absolutely adore!
Nicole Feliciano – Mom Trends
Some fashionistas refuse to give up high heels even after the kids come along. You’ll find regular tips for living well and making the most out of motherhood, profiles of inspiring Momtrenpreneurs, fashion trends, reviews and more.
Audrey Couto McClelland – Mom Generations
Audrey Couto McClelland left the fashion world of Donna Karan International in NYC to raise her brood of four boys. She’s learned that you can take the girl out of the Fashion District, but you can’t take the Fashion District out of the girl.
James Kicinski-McCoy – Bleu Bird Vintage
James encourages other moms to get up and get dressed every day. When you take a little bit of time for yourself each morning, you feel better physically and emotionally. There’s no need to give up your style just because you had a baby!
Nina – Momma Go Round
Nina offers style, on a real budget, for real women. Join her as she tackles the latest fashions, discovers what works, and what doesn’t, craft new styles and accesories, while making it all toddler-friendly!
Andrea Fellman – Savvy Sassy Moms
Andrea Fellman is a mom who hasn’t lost her style to motherhood! Savvy is to be experienced, well-informed, intelligent. Sassy is to be lively, spirited, stylish and chic.
Becki Crosby – Whippy Cake
Becki Crosby is the mom in the grocery store sporting the just-rolled-out-of-bed look with a posh twist to make you think she did it on purpose. She wears stripes with polka dots and white after Labor Day!
There are plenty of jeans out there that are comfortable AND stylish. One Plum District Consultant shares her favorites.

Gigi is a District Consultant in San Francisco, California. She has a 4-year old son (Liam), a 1-year old daughter (Amelie), and a 12-year old Pug (Penelope).
Motherhood isn’t always stylish, and it certainly isn’t glamorous. But if you’re like most females on the planet, you know that finding a pair of jeans is critical, and is often a humbling battle with the victor being anyone but you (at least that’s my experience). Whether you’re short, tall, curvy, or straight, getting a fantastic pair of jeans is almost as good, if not better, than – well, you fill in the blank…
Being a mom and being a jean-wearing mom can be a bit tricky. Tina Fey and our friends at SNL gave us countless laughs (and a complex!) with their timeless spoof on the Mom Jean:
My favorite jeans come from a variety of brands. My criteria – aside from wanting to look fantastic – is comfort, since I’m herding kiddos and managing a household. I have no time for binding, pinching, and certainly no time for sucking it in. Believe it or not, and all laughing aside, we can be moms – in jeans – and look fabulous, glamorous… and, yes, even rockin’…
Old Navy makes fantastic and affordable jeans that not only flaunt your figure but also help keep the budget-conscience mom in a happy place.
- The Women’s Sweetheart Skinny ($29.50) is my personal fav and is great for those wanting the sassy skinny leg coupled with comfort:
- The Women’s Sweetheart Boot-Cut ($29.50) is terrific for casual days, and rest assured – no style is left behind:
A good trouser is unbeatable. The best pair I’ve found is by Level 99. They have a classic tailored cut and quality, and they look terrific dressed up with heels and a jacket, or can be dressed down for a more casual look.
- The Jerry Sailor Trouser ($55) is my favorite (accessorized with buttons at the hip – love!):
- Level 99′s Storm Wide Leg ($106) is runner up.
I was also recently introduced to the Miraclebody denim line, from the makers of the celebrated Miraclesuit swimwear. The Katie Signature Tacked is excellent, comfortable, and, I have to admit, they make my body (and booty) look pretty phenom.
Even Mom can appreciate a great shoppertunity!
