Friday Fundraisers are making a difference and aren't just for Fridays anymore
June 7th, 2012 | 9:13 AM
Plum District is in the community every day. We live, work and play in the places we call home, and we’re dedicated to giving back and making a positive difference. Since we started Friday Fundraisers in February, we’ve been partnering with our amazing vendors to raise money for deserving causes all around the country.
Last week, we did a nationwide Friday Fundraiser for Locks Of Love. Salons participated in contributing 10% of every purchase to Locks of Love for wigs and hair pieces for children with medical hair loss.
This week, we’re expanding our efforts beyond a single day, and hosting a five-day fundraiser in Austin, TX for Food In Tummies. Food in Tummies or “FIT,” a project of The Junior League of Austin, is a unique program designed to provide weekend nourishment to children grades K – 5 who qualify for the National School Lunch Program. The FIT program, managed by JLA volunteers, helps these hungry Austin children by delivering backpacks of nutritious food each week to Austin area elementary schools – helping over 1,400 families a week!
Plum District is partnering with five prominent Austin companies this week, contributing 10% – 20% of all proceeds generated by offers to FIT:
Kendra Scott: $30 for $60 to Spend on Jewelry & 20% Benefits FIT
Bright Beginnings: $15 for $30 to Spend on Children’s Clothing & 10% Benefits FIT
Plush Fabric & Home Interiors: $50 for $150 Worth of Fabric and Trim & 20% Benefits FIT
In March, Plum District partnered with Newport Kids Consignment in Orange County, CA to benefit Sonora Elementary School in Costa Mesa. District Consultant Stephanie Graney said, “The school reported that they received more in one check from us than they did from two other programs. It felt so good to give back!”
In February, we partnered with Pump It Up in Raleigh to benefit Brier Creek Elementary School. District Consultant Leslie Pawlak shared a thank you note from the school, that said with the $800 raised, they were able to directly support the art classroom in their school.
Our efforts don’t stop there! Be on the look out every Friday for more offers that give back!
Beautify your tresses and help a child get the hair he or she deserves

You’ve heard of Locks of Love. It’s a not-for-profit organization that provides the highest quality wigs to children with medical hair loss. These children do not have the money to spend $3,500-$6,000 on a wig (the normal retail price), and Locks of Loves gives them custom-made, incredibly natural-looking hairpieces for free. The majority of recipients have hair loss due to an auto-immune condition known as Alopecia Areata, and others suffer from severe burns, radiation treatment, and other dermatological conditions. Locks of Love hairpieces are in high demand, and each takes four months to make.
Today, 10% of the proceeds from your purchase of our Friday Fundraiser offers will go to to Locks of Love to help a child in need. The following local and national deals have partnered with us to support this great cause. Be sure to buy in the next few days so that your $$ benefits a child who needs it.

For the past 25 years, Coats for Kids has provided new and gently used coats to eligible children and teenagers in Central Texas. Last year, over 35,000 Central Texas youth received coats.
Where do all of these coats come from? From the generous Austin commuinty and Austin-area schools. Each year the Coat Drive Competition brings in thousands of coats for Coats for Kids. You can help your school win the Coat Drive Competition by simply choosing the school you’d like to get credit for your $15 donation. Each $15 donation buys a coat for a Central Texas child. Your online donation could also help your school’s PTA receive $500! Plum District is donating $500 to the school with the most online donations, so spread the word.
The best part? Plum District will also be giving 10% of Austin deal sales back to Coats for Kids during the Coat Drive Competition, so check out our great holiday deals as well!
Plum District Austin partners with Coats for Kids to help families in need prepare for winter
November 8th, 2011 | 3:25 PM
After Austin’s sweltering summer, most of us are ready to welcome winter with open arms — finally, a break from the endless 100-degree days! For many Central Texas families, however, cold weather can bring new challenges. Buying new coats for growing kids is costly and often falls to the bottom of a long list of expenses. Thankfully, Austin has Coats for Kids!
Celebrating its 25th year, Coats for Kids is an annual community project that collects and distributes warm winter coats to eligible children and teenagers in Central Texas. Last year, Coats for Kids distributed 35,157 new and gently used coats to young people in Central Texas. Where do all these coats come from? From people like you: Austin moms who love their community!
Each year Austin moms (and dads!) work with their local schools to help facilitate coat drives to support Coats for Kids, bringing in thousands of coats. This year’s Coat Drive Competition (sponsored by the Junior League of Austin) officially kicks off November 11 and goes through November 30!
This year, Plum District is excited to partner with Coats for Kids to provide an online donation opportunity for all schools participating in the Coat Drive Competition. This is the perfect option to get friends, family, neighbors, grandparents, etc. involved!
Why should you get your school involved? Plum District will be donating $500 to the PTA of the school with the most online donations! The best part is that Plum District Austin will also give 10% of sales during the Coat Drive Competition back to Coats for Kids!
Register your school today! Once you’re registered, you’ll receive additional information on how to conduct your own coat drive and collect coats and online donations. What a great tradition to bring to your school!
